With over a decade of experience, Liying is a highly accomplished occupational therapist
specializing in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. Her academic journey began at Nanyang Polytechnic, where she earned a Diploma in Occupational Therapy with merit in 2012. She quickly advanced her expertise by obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy with First Class Honors from Trinity College Dublin the following year. Liying then embarked on her professional career at the National University Hospital (NUH), where she has since been a dedicated practitioner. In 2018, she further enriched her knowledge by completing a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Tufts University, alongside an advanced professional certificate in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. Her training included an internship at the prestigious Massachusetts General Hospital Hand and Arm Center.


During her tenure at NUH, Liying had cultivated a deep expertise in managing a broad spectrum of upper limb conditions, ranging from fractures, tendon injuries, wrist ligament injuries, repetitive strain injuries and compression neuropathies to more complex cases such as tendon transfers, replantations, thoracic outlet syndrome, and brachial plexus injuries. She had played a pivotal role in developing innovative, evidence-based rehabilitation protocols, particularly for wrist ligament injuries, flexor tendon post repairs, and elbow instability. Liying’s clinical interests extended to work rehabilitation, return-to-work coordination, and desktop ergonomic assessments. Her commitment to excellence and her significant contributions to the field were recognized in 2022 when she received the NUHS Allied Health Commendation Award.


Liying’s dedication goes beyond clinical practice. She is actively involved in research and education, regularly presenting her findings at international conferences since 2016. She had also mentored numerous students from her alma mater, nurturing the next generation of hand occupational therapy specialists. In recognition of her outstanding contributions to clinical education, Liying was honored with the SAOT-SIT ICE GEM Award by the Singapore Association of Occupational Therapists in 2023.
